Mr. Johnnie James (Butch) Manuel Jr. was born September 24, 1949, to the late Johnnie J. and Christine A. Manuel of Petersburg, VA. He departed this life for eternal rest on Friday, June 1, 2012, at MCV Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie J. Manuel Sr.; his mother, Christine A. Manuel; stepmother, Gertrude Manuel Curly; and a brother Floyd Blackwell.
He was employed with the Chesterfield County Public School System for many years and later at Brighton Manor until his declining health.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, a devoted wife and caregiver Shirley E. Manuel of Petersburg, VA; three loving and devoted children, one daughter Kandy T. Stith (Sandy) of Matoaca, VA, two sons, Glen T. Manuel (Bridgette) of Petersburg, VA and Kenneth C. Manuel (Whitney) of Hopewell, VA; ten grandchildren, Shar’a, Shannon (Antonio), Melvin, Desiree, Brianna, Jamie Glen, Tatyana, Kori, Kaleia, and Kayla; two great grandchildren, Shatonia and Antonio Jr; one sister Cindy Manuel Watson of Dinwiddie, VA ; Mother in-law Viola G. Evans of Ettrick, VA; one sister in-law Dale Evans (Floyd) of Sutherland, VA; two brothers in-law Joe Evans (Shirley) and McCoy Evans (Rebecca) both of Ettrick, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, among them, lifelong childhood friends, Edward Hurley and Ronnie Pegram.
Funeral services for Mr. Johnnie Manuel Jr. will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 1:00pm from the Third Baptist Church, 550 Farmer Street Petersburg, Va. with Rev. Leroy Cherry, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Dinwiddie Memorial Park Cemetery, Petersburg, Va.
Public viewing will be held on Monday, June 4, 2012 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 from 10:00am to 8:00pm at the J.L. Dodson & Sons Funeral Establishment.
