0n Tuesday, May 7, 2013 an angel was called into God’s arms to rest. Deaconess Margaret E. Ricks, “Sister”, was born on August 22, 1923 in Sussex County, Va. to the late James Everson and Hattie Mae Everson. “Sister” was educated in the Sussex County Public School System and was a Seamstress by trade. She loved fishing and playing bingo.
Margaret was a faithful disciple of Plank Road Baptist Church where she served on the deaconess board until her health declined.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. John Anderson Ricks; one sister, Beatrice E. Walker and two brothers, James Everson, Jr. and Bernard Everson.
“Sister” leaves to cherish her memories two sons, devoted son Dessaussure Ricks (Tina) of Petersburg, Va. and Milton Davis Jr. (Regina) of Waverly, Va.; two sisters, one devoted, Deaconess Louise Everson of Waverly, Va. and Hazel Payton of Harrisburg, Pa.; one adopted brother, Deacon Welton Bolden (Georgina) of Waverly, Va.; six grandchildren, Louis Davis, LaCrita Williams , Louise Davis, Monique Clanton, Anthony Clanton and Nicole Taylor; 12 great grandchildren; one great- great grandchild; a host of nieces, three devoted, Ella Ma Walker, Janice Handley and Connie Walker; nephews and cousins. Also, her caregivers, Mrs. Lakisha Foster and Ms. Shanicka Taylor and many other friends too numerous to name.
The home going service for Deaconess Margaret E. Ricks will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. from the Plank Road Baptist Church, 11578 Jerusalem Plank Rd., Waverly, Va., with Rev. George Urquhart, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Remains will lie in repose at the church beginning at 12:00 noon on the day of the service.
Public viewing will be held Sunday, May 12, 2013 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and on Monday, May 13, 2013 from 9:00am to 8:00pm at the J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment 25824 Greensville Ave. Petersburg, Va. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the residence of Desaussure Ricks (Tina), 2046 Fort Rice St. Petersburg, Va.
