Mr. Peter Sam Cox entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at his residence in Petersburg, Virginia. Born on May 7, 1939, in Dinwiddie, Virginia, Peter was the son of the late Sam and Louise Mitchell Cox.
Peter worked at Roundtree Pontiac in Petersburg, as a mechanic for many years. He had a love and passion for working on cars and did so until his health began to decline. Peter relocated out of Virginia for a few years but later returned home to Petersburg in 1989 where he resided until his death.
Peter was preceded in death by three brothers, Samuel, William and Henry Cox; one sister, Ida Mae Cox; and two nephews, Marvin Cox and Lawrence Thompson III.
Memories of Peter will be cherished by his loving sisters, Mattie Newton (Lester), and Louise Maclin (Sterling) of Petersburg, Virginia, Shirley Baldwin (Abdul) of Richmond, VA; two granddaughters, Tasha Chavis and Erica Graves; brothers, Tommy Cox of Hagerstown, Md., and Robert Garrett of Baltimore, Md.; devoted nephew, Edward “BooBoo” Cox; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends, among them a devoted caregiver, Ms. Tamara Nicolas and friend, Michael Johnson.

Funeral services for Mr. Peter Cox will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 1:00pm from the Chapel of the J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment with Evangelist Yvette Hill Harris, officiating. Interment will follow in the Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Virginia. Family members are asked to assemble at the residence of his sister, Louise Macklin, 1313 Farmer Street, Petersburg, Virginia at 11:45am on the day of the service.
