Mrs. Virgie Virginia Yates Robinson, 88, of 1406 Grant Avenue, Petersburg VA, departed this life on Friday, July 17, 2015.
She was a native of Dinwiddie County and the daughter of the late Arthur E. and Annie Jones Yates.
Mrs. Robinson was a faithful member of the New First Baptist Church, Petersburg, Virginia for many years where she served on the Pastor’s Aid Ministry and the Women’s Usher Ministry.
She loved to cook, sew, take pictures, watch her soap operas and was a joy to the neighborhood kids.
She retired from her job as a Psychiatric Aide at Central State Hospital after more than two decades.
Virgie was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. "Turk" Robinson, Sr.; and her siblings, sisters, Laura Branch, Maggie Law, Julia Gholson, Ella West, and Grayzell Yates; and brothers, James Yates and Grover Yates.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Edward Robinson, Jr. of Chesterfield, Va., Avis Robinson of Chesterfield, Va., Bryant Robinson of Petersburg, Va., and Rickey Robinson (Veronica) of Suffolk, Va; step-daughter, Gail Allen-Martin (Donald) of Hopewell, Va.; her grandchildren, Andrae Kirkland of Florida, Alexandra Pegram of Petersburg, Va., LaeDante Vaughan of Washington State, Javahn Lockett of Texas, and Kennedy Robinson of Maryland; step-grandchildren, Keenan Smith and Kendrick Smith; her sisters, Mrs. Mazie McRae, Mrs. Novell Baugh and Mrs. Shirley Kizzie, all of Petersburg, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Tyler's Retreat at Iron Bridge, Chester, VA. for the care of their loved one.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, July 23, 2015 at New First Baptist Church, 1346 Grant Avenue Petersburg, Va. the Rev. Curtis Johnson, Jr. Pastor, eulogizing and the Rev. Boris Kizzie, officiating. Interment will follow in Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Petersburg, Virginia. Remains will lie in repose one hour prior to service at the church.
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the residence, 1406 Grant Avenue Petersburg, Virginia and is asking that relatives and friends assemble there at 10:30am on the day of the service.
A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 21,2015 from 5p.m. to 8p.m. and on Wednesday, July, 22, 2015 from 9a.m. to 8p.m., at the J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment.
