Carl Visher Hughes, Jr.

Carl Visher Hughes, Jr. (known to his family and friends as “Butch”) was born on March 25, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Carl Visher Hughes, Sr. and Catherine Hughes.
Butch attended Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia and later obtained his GED while serving in the military. While in high school, he was an avid track runner and enjoyed playing sports. Butch was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army where he served as a sharp shooter.
Butch was blessed with two sons, Jeffrey Hughes and Troy Hughes prior to his union with Angela Anderson Hughes. From his marriage to Angela, Carl V. Hughes IV and the late Bianca L. Hughes where born to this union. Butch truly loved his children and wanted the best for them.
Butch was employed as a laborer and held various jobs throughout his life.
Butch experienced several medical problems during his later years resulting in a reconnection to the Veterans Administration where he actively participated in various programs which appeared to inspire him.
Butch was tragically called home on September 23, 2015 in North Chesterfield, Virginia. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lorraine Lockett; and one stepsister, Sheila Tucker.
He is survived by, three sons,Jeffrey Hughes (Colleen), Troy Hughes (Yolanda), and Carl V. Hughes IV; two stepsons,Rodney Tucker ( Robyn) and Demetrius Jermaine Anderson; five grandchildren, Kendall, Juliana, Isabella, Ethan, and Jayden; two nephews,Dartanyon Lockett and James Tucker; two nieces,Crystal Tucker and Starr Fields, and other family members and close friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Carl V. Hughes will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church of God In Christ, 233 Halifax Street, Petersburg, Virginia., Rev. Jeffrey L. Dodson, Sr., Pastor, Rev. Dr. Johnnie Fleming,Jr.,Pastor of Second Baptist Church Chester, Va. officiating. Remains will rest in the church one hour prior to service.
Viewing will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 3:00pm to 9:00pm at the J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment.
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of Robert Anderson, Jr. (Bobbie L. Anderson), 2804 Jolly Ln. Chester, Va. 23831 and is also asking them to assemble there at 9:30am on the day of the service.
