Mabel R. Caperton Colston, 91, of 118 S. Old Street, Petersburg, Va. and lifelong resident of the Blandford Community was born on June 10, 1925 to the late William H. Caperton Sr. and Ruth E. Macklin Caperton Montgomery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a devoted step father, John Montgomery; husband, Emmanuel Colston (Gene); sister, Eunice Caperton; and brother, William Henry Caperton, Jr.
Mabel was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church and attended until her health declined. She was a member of the Blandford Eastover Neighborhood watch and Happy Hour Senior Citizen Club.
Mabel attended Blandford and Henry Williams Elementary School and graduated from D. Webster Davis High School. She attended Virginia State College (now Virginia State University) and Tennessee State University until her health declined and she had to return home.
She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted brother, Ricky E. Montgomery (Monique) of Petersburg, Va.; a devoted sister-in-law, Dorothy B. Caperton of Petersburg, Va.; a former sister-in-law who was like a sister to Mabel, Delia C. Montgomery of Petersburg, Va.
The family would like to thank the staff of Southside Regional Medical Center, Adult Health Care Solution, Interfaith Day Care, Colonial Heights Convalescent Health Care Center and Dr. Shirlene Moten for the care and services provided to their loved one during the time of her illness.
Visitation for Mabel Colston will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016 from 9am to 8pm at the J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment.
Funeral service for Mabel R. Caperton Colston will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11:00am at the chapel of J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment Petersburg, Va. with Father Brian Capuano, Pastor, Officiating. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Va. Family and friends are asked to assemble at 9:45am at the residence on the day of the service.
