William Earl Winfield (1947-2018)
On January 11, 2018, heaven opened its gates to receive William Earl Winfield, at the age of 70.
William was born on March 15, 1947 to late Earl Nicholas and Susie Mae Brown Winfield. He was educated in the Sussex County School System, Sussex VA.
At an early age, William established his spiritual foundation at Pleasant Grove United Church of Christ. As a hard worker, William faithfully served in the logging industry for many years, and retired from Davis Logging of Virginia, Incorporated in Courtland, VA.
In his spare time, he loved to sing and play the guitar as well as the harmonica, while comically entertaining family and friends of the community. Throughout Sussex County, William “made his rounds” visiting family and friends, bringing love, laughter and music.
Forever, William Earl Winfield will be loved and remembered by his family, friends and all that knew him. William was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie Lorenza Harper, and his six siblings, Clarence Winfield, James Marshall Winfield, Clifton Winfield, Pearlie Birchett, Earlean Edwards, and Brenda Massenburg.
Left to cherish fond memories his wife, Malindy M. Winfield of Waverly, VA.; four sisters, Lucy Lewis (Clyde) of Portsmouth, VA., Nancy Winfield, Gloria Lowery (William) and Janette Winfield, all of Waverly, VA.; one brother, Earl Winfield, Jr. (Shirley) of Newsome, VA.; a number grandchildren; a devoted niece, Sara Winfield and nephew, Gerald Winfield; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and former co-workers.
The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to the nurses and medical staff at VCU Medical Center’s Critical Care and Palliative Care Unit.
A public viewing will be held Friday, January 19, 2018 from 12:00P.M. to 8P.M. at J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment.
A Celebration of Life service for Mr. William E. Winfield will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Mt. Moriah United Church of Christ 12499 Old Forty Road Waverly, Virginia. Pastor Ronald Lowery, Eulogist, Refreshing Streams Ministry, Petersburg, VA. and Dana L. Lowery, Officiant. Interment to follow at Church Cemetery.
The Family will assemble 11:45 A.M. the day of service and will receive relatives and friends at his sister and brother-in-law residence Gloria Lowery (William) 25543 Sussex Dr. Waverly, VA.
