Mrs.  Florence M. Smith entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 15, 2018. She was born on April 26, 1928 to the late Silas Mckeever and Ida Mckeever.

Florence was a faithful member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va. for over 50 years until her health declined. She was a dedicated foster grandparent with at least 17 years of dedicated service. She fostered kids at Virginia State University, Walnut Hill Elementary and Zion Apostolic just to name a few. Her hobbies included watching golf –Tiger Woods was her favorite, watching Wheel of Fortune, and working word search puzzles.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Silas and Ida Mckeever; her husband, James Smith; and two sisters, Sallie Weaver and Geraldine Cunningham.

Florence is survived by her three children all of Petersburg, Va.: sons, James Smith and Nelson Smith and his wife Nadine; her devoted daughter and caregiver, Gail Smith; four grandsons, Nelson Smith, Jr., Darnell Smith, Maurice Smith, and Anthony Smith, all of Petersburg, Va.; great grandchildren, Devin M. Carter and Makenna Rae Carter; and best friend, Jeanette Berrios.

Public viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 4pm to 8pm and Thursday, April 19, 2018 9am to 8pm. at J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment.

Funeral services for Ms. Florence Smith will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 , 11:00am, at the Mount Olivet Baptist Church, 800 Augusta Avenue, Petersburg, Va., 23803 , Rev. Wesley K. McLaughlin, Pastor. Interment will follow in the Dinwiddie Memorial Park Cemetery.
