Mrs. Minnie Cooley Core

( January 25, 1930 - December 27, 2018 )

Mrs. Minnie Cooley Core was born in Chesterfield County to the late Solomon Warren Cooley and Fannie Wilkins Cooley and educated in the Chesterfield County Public School System. She attended the Davis School at Virginia State College and went on to study early education at Virginia State.

She worked for Central State Hospital over 20 years. In 1972 Minnie Cooley met and later married SSG. Elree Core. She loved playing Bingo and established long lasting relationships with many friends there.

Lovingly known by most as “Aunt Minnie”, one of her favorite things to do was to collect items for yard sales and then give them away to needy families when they came to the sale. This was her special giving ministry, and many families were blessed through her hard, dedicated work and generosity.

The Cooley family was among the founding fathers of Shiloh Baptist Church. Mrs. Minnie Cooley Core was a faithful member for over 80 years and worked untiringly until her health declined.

Mrs. Core loved working with the elderly. If they were sick and shut-in, she made sure they were not shut out. She often visited the elderly and the sick and was committed to ensuring they had something good to eat, were bathed and smelled fresh, and had a clean house before she left.

Mrs. Minnie Cooley Core entered into rest on December 27, 2018, at Colonial Heights Healthcare Center, Colonial Heights, VA. She was predeceased by her spouse SSG. Elree Core, and siblings Warren S. Cooley, Isaac Ike Cooley, Anna Pearl Cooley Mahone, Ellen Cooley Friends, Gladys Cooley Boone, Otelia Cooley Cheatham, Ruth Cooley Stewart, Rosa Lee Cooley Power, and Luther Hugo Cooley.

She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted son Herbert Lee Wynn, Jr. of Chesterfield, VA, who stayed by her side, grandsons Herbert Wynn Jr. (Monica) of Petersburg, VA, Alexander Wynn of Petersburg, VA, granddaughter, Katrina Wynn of Richmond, VA. , and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends; especially her special friend, Rosa Tandy of Mableton, GA.

We know to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and although she will be missed dearly, we know she is in God’s bosom and at peace. Rest assured we will see you again, or it’s not a question of if, but a question of when! Well done Momma; Well done.
