Mrs. Annie Louise Macklin

( April 10, 1945 - August 15, 2022 )

Annie Louise Macklin was born on April 10, 1945 in Sussex, Virginia to the late Roman Pulliam, Sr. and Jezebel Pulliam. As one of ten children, Annie was always a caretaker from her earliest years, helping her three sisters, Lillie, Delores, and Susie and her seven brothers, Alonzo, Kenney, Wayne, Roman Jr., John, and Joseph with daily activities. At 16, she met the love of her life, Junious Macklin, and received her mother's permission to leave school and get married. Shortly thereafter, she "got creative" with paperwork that claimed she was a year older than she was so she could secure employment in Johnston-Willis Hospital's culinary department. She was a member of the Johnston-Willis family for 61 years and not surprisingly, their most tenured employee.

Throughout her years at Johnston-Willis Hospital, Annie enthusiastically and tirelessly prepared and served meals in the cafeteria, stating, "I love taking care of people, and I like to keep people happy, and I know people love to eat. It's the main thing people love." She was a beloved colleague and friend who was respected, admired, and adored.

Shortly before Annie fell ill, the local news station, CBS Channel 6, featured her in a story about her amazing tenure and career at the hospital, which fortunately documented her faithful service and allowed Annie to express her thoughts and feelings about her 61 years in her own words.

In addition to her dedication to her family, friends, and career, she was also a devoted Christian and member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith for over 50 years -always helping her brothers and sisters in any way she could. She would often cook for events and serve visiting dignitaries with a warm and welcoming smile. She was revered and valued as a senior member of the church and loved by all.

To say Annie was committed to the things she loved in life would be an understatement. Her devotion is rarely seen, and she will be missed by all that knew her.

In addition to her parents, Annie was preceded in death by her sister, Susie; and brothers, Wayne, Roman Jr., John, and Joseph.

Annie is survived by her supportive siblings; sisters, Lillie Draper (Ronnie, Sr.) and Jean Delores Pulliam; brothers, Leon Pulliam (Viveca) and Kenneth Pulliam (Hattie); sisters-in-law, Geradine Powell, Magnolia Dunson, Ida Mae Coleman (Cecil); brother-in-law, Larry Macklin; and a

host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted friends and The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of The Apostolic Faith Family.
