Mrs. Gaynell Green

( November 30, 1941 - September 22, 2022 )

On Tuesday September 22, 2022, my beloved mother Gaynell Green departed this life for a better life with her Lord and Savior. Gaynell was born on November 30, 1941 in Danville Virginia to the late George Washington Sydnor and Victoria Woods Sydnor. She was educated in Danville Public School System.

Gaynell accepted Christ at an early age, she join Sandy Creek Baptist Church and sang in the Liberty Hill Community Choir which her mother started, everyone that sang in the community choir were members of Sandy Creek Baptist Church so it became Sandy Creek Baptist Church Choir.

In the early sixties Gaynell moved to Brooklyn NY during this time she was married to the late Howard Graves from that union one child was born, Wanda Graves Mitchell.

Wanda was her mother’s greatest joy, her best friend – she was everything to her, it was always the two of them against the world.

Gaynell was a faithful member of Greater Friendship Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and usher for more than twenty plus years. She loved her church family and loved singing praises to her Lord and Savior a few of her favorite songs were “Packing Up, Sweet Home, and I’m On the Right Road Now”.

Gaynell Green was married a second time to the late Joe Louis Green of Oriental NC for 11 years no children were born of this union.

Gaynell also worked at Queens College for 20 years before retiring in 2004.

Gaynell was a loving, devoted, and caring mother, grandmother and sister. She had the strangest way of showing her family and friend how much she loved them but in spite of it all you new she loved you know matter what.

Gaynell was predeceased by her husband, Joe, her parents, George and Victoria Sydnor; her brother, Wesley Woods, her niece, Sharon Sanders and her nephew, Bailey Woods.
