Mrs. Yulanda Denise Brooks

( April 5, 1961 - February 19, 2023 )

Yulanda entered into eternal rest on February 19, 2023, with her family by her side.  Yulanda Denise Sauls Brooks was born on April 5, 1961, in Richmond, Virginia to the (late) Bishop Henry Williams Sauls and Ruth Rachel Sauls. She received her formal education from Richmond City Public Schools and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, Virginia.

While in New York, she met and married her loving husband, Larry Brooks in 1985. Yulanda and Larry went on to have 8 children, Tiffany, Larry Jr., Clifton, Shandra, Letesha, Kyle, Courtney, Breanna, and step-son (late) Antonio Smith. Yulanda was a loving and nurturing mother and wife. She was a devoted grandmother who looked forward to visits from her grandkids and instilled in them a love for the Lord. She always entertained with amazing storytelling, sometimes with a hint of exaggeration. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “Loving” because that’s who she was.

Yulanda returned to her hometown in Richmond, Virginia and served at Faith Landmarks Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Randy and Cherie Gilbert.  She graduated from (FLBI) Faith Landmarks Bible Institution in May 2013. She took pride in teaching and spreading the word of God through ministry and outreach as an active leader of the children’s ministry -- “Mighty Kids”. Yulanda remained faithful to God as she knew there was more to be done for the Kingdom of God, as she encouraged and worked with her sister to build ministry at Liberty Tabernacle of Deliverance in the City of Richmond, Virginia, under the leadership of Pastor Grace Sauls.

Yulanda was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, church and her family. Her compassion for life was one of generosity; in caring for family, friends and her community. Yulanda served in several capacities within the church, beginning at The Glorious Church of God in Christ, Richmond, VA under the leadership of her father, Bishop Henry Sauls, and also under the leadership of Bishop Perry Lindsay, Sr., The Glorious Church of God in Christ, Brooklyn, New York. Yulanda loved to sing and had an angelic voice. In 1981, the Perry Lindsay Radio Choir recorded an album titled, Glorious New Inspirations. Yulanda was the soloist for the song, written by Evangelist Tina Gates, “He’s Coming Back Again”.

Yulanda trusted God and relied on Him to provide her every need. Even when her health began to fail, she still had this testimony that she was more than a conqueror, saying; “I don’t believe You bought me this far to leave me!” She dared not complain.  Her family is comforted in knowing we will see her again as we rejoice in the Kingdom of God forever. She was a beacon of light and her legacy will live on in the many lives she's touched.

Yulanda was preceded in death by her father, Bishop Henry Sauls, her mother, Ruth R. Sauls, three brothers, Clifton Sauls, Benjamin Sauls and Paul Sauls, one sister Maudell Sauls, and a stepson, Antonio Smith.

Yulanda leaves to cherish her memories a devoted family,  her loving husband, Larry Brooks; four daughters, Tiffany Sauls, Shandra Sauls, Letesha Sauls, and Breanna Brooks; four sons, Larry Brooks Jr., Clifton Sauls, Kyle Sauls, and Courtney Brooks; six grandchildren, Ashana Sauls, Alora Sauls, Amani Grays, Phillip Alderman III, Quincy Alderman, and Zy’Anna Davis; three sisters, Patricia Jones, Grace Sauls, and Jean Wilson; four brothers, William Sauls (Florence), Timothy Sauls (LaVerne), Charles Sauls and Bruce Sauls; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
