On February 22, 2023, John F. Roberts III, bravely answered the Master’s call and went home to be present with the Lord.

John, affectionately known as “JJ”, was born on March 8, 1979, in Richmond, VA.

JJ was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert C. Bland and Pearl Bland of Petersburg, VA and paternal grandparents, John F. Roberts Sr. and Leona Roberts of Sutherland, VA.

JJ was educated in the Petersburg Public School System and later pursued employment in the construction field for a short period of time.  He had a passion for building things and detailing cars.  JJ loved his family, his friends, his pit bulls, and his music.  He loved people and always was the life of the party.  JJ didn’t have to know you to conversate with you; he was just that kind of guy.

To cherish his fond memories are his loving and devoted parents, John F. Roberts Jr. of Dinwiddie, VA and Nadine Bland Roberts of S. Chesterfield, VA.

Also to cherish his memories are his handsome sons, Nyheem Roberts, Raheem Roberts, Jaheem Roberts, Jaquan Roberts, Johntae and Jamaury Jones; his beautiful daughters, Jaliah Roberts, Laniyah Roberts, Shaianah Roberts, Jayanna Roberts, Zoey Roberts, and Deriona Gill, siblings; loving and devoted sisters,  his heart beat, Chante Roberts of S Chesterfield, VA ; his dedicated diva, Felicia Richardson (Calvin) of Dinwiddie, VA; his keeping it real, Keonni Bethune of Petersburg, VA; and  his ride or die, JohnDrea Roberts of Dinwiddie, VA; two devoted ride or die brothers, Carlos Haskins (Arquesia) and Johnathan Butcher, all of Petersburg, VA; aunts, one very devoted, Rev. Allison Bland Tucker of Dinwiddie, VA; Gwen Roberts Williams, Linda Gholson, Schreal Weaver (Darwin), all of Dinwiddie, VA; and Nena Marks of Chesterfield VA; uncles, Alphonso Roberts (Dorothy), Wayne Roberts, Jesse Roberts, all of Dinwiddie, VA; Scotty Bland of Petersburg, VA; Robert Bruce Bland of Lansing, MI; and Linwood Tucker of Spotsylvania, VA; godfather, Rev. Jeffrey L. Dodson, Sr., his estranged wife, Elizabeth Gill.

JJ loved his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, he leaves a host of them, devoted nephew, John Orlando Dean.

Special thanks to Rev. Dr. Phillip Williams and the prayer warriors of Royal Baptist Church, Rev. Larry Brown who always had his back and encouraged him. 

Many, many thanks to the oncology team at MCV, Nurse Teresa, you were awesome and Ryan Templeton, you are the best pharmacist ever.

Celebration of life service for Mr. John F. Roberts III will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church of God In Christ, 233 Halifax Street Petersburg, Virginia 23803, Rev. Jeffrey L. Dodson, Sr., Pastor;  Rev. Dr. Larry Brown, Eulogist, Pastor of Gravel Run Baptist Church Dinwiddie, VA; Rev. Dr. Philip Williams, Officiant, Pastor of Royal Baptist Church Petersburg, VA.  Interment to follow in the Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery Petersburg, VA 23803.

A public viewing will be on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 from 9am to 8pm at the J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment-Petersburg, VA.

Family and friends are asked to assemble at the residence 21400 Jackson St. S. Chesterfield, VA on the day of the service at 12:45pm.
