J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment - Danville

Mrs. Helen Dodson Johnson

( March 22, 1929 - July 2, 2024 )

Mrs. Helen Dodson Johnson of Westfield, New Jersey, formerly of Java, Virginia, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway, New Jersey.

She was born on March 22, 1929, to the late Phillip Dodson and Thelma Hunter Dodson in Pittsylvania County.  She graduated from the Pittsylvania County School System. She was married to the love of her life, the late Judson Henry Johnson, for over seventy years.

Helen retired from the C & H Department Store.  She loved the Lord.  Her favorite scripture was Psalms 23; to hear the way she quoted this scripture was angelic.  When her health would permit, she would attend church at Calvary Tabernacle.  Every Tuesday, she looked forward to her senior Westville Bible Study.

Helen was a giver.  She gave to the church and  women’s ministry.  It was nothing for her to go in her pantry, closet and pocketbook to give a blessing to others out of the love in her heart.  She enjoyed bingo and cooking; the senior bible study always knew she was going to show up with a delicious dish from her kitchen.  She will truly be missed by all that knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memories, three sons, Raleigh Peter Dodson (Loretta), Judson Johnson and Micheal Johnson (Joann); three daughters, Patricia Faison (Elder, Jr.), Carolyn Gilmore and Pearl Smith (Cleveland, Jr.); one brother, Phillip Dodson; two sisters, Rebecca Ferguson and Margie Logan; over 93 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great- great grandkids; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a. m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 857 Brownsville Height Lane, Java, Virginia 24565.  Elder Ella Pass, Bibleway Cathedral, Danville, Virginia, Eulogist.

A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment, 447 Old South Main Street, Danville, Virginia, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
