Ory Augoney Thomas entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 11, 2024. His life began March 14, 1958 in Petersburg, Va. He was predeceased by his loving parents Dorsey Thomas Sr., Frances Jackson Thomas and loving sister,  Linda Thomas Ivy.

Ory accepted Christ at an early age where he joined and was baptized at First Baptist Church in West Petersburg, Va. He was a graduate of Dinwiddie High School. After graduating he served in the United States Army.

Ory was a man gifted with many talents and a heart to help others. That was evident in how he loved his community and his willingness to lend a helping hand. He worked most of his life as a contractor in the trade of carpentry. When called to help with family and friend projects, Ory was always willing and ready with a smile and his distinct laugh! (As long as the price was right) He was skilled in plumbing, roofing, painting, dry-wall and flooring. In recent years he enjoyed sitting out in the yard of the family home where he resided, entertaining friends and family.

Ory leaves behind to cherish his memory: sons, Robert Cunningham Sr., Ory T. Thomas Sr.; grandchildren, Robert Cunningham Jr., Zi’Yonna Crawley, Ory T. Thomas Jr., Arianna Williams, O’Siah Thomas; sister, Victoria “Vickey” Edwards (Sherman); brother, Dorsey “Butch” Thomas Jr. (Cherie) nephews, Daniel “Danny” Ivy Jr. (Tashiana), Timothy “Tim” Thomas, LaVon “Boop” Edwards; nieces, Shannon Edwards, Shanae Edwards, Kimberly Thomas; great nephews, Gianni Ivy, Grayson Ivy, Grant Ivy, LaKhi Edwards; great nieces, Kalani Thomas, Kamari Jackson.

Special Friends and Caregivers:     James “Pluck” Jones, Donzell “Dee” Wilson, Edward Stith, Collie Ribbon, Alvin Drumgoole, Wanda Thomas, Sallie Baskerville, Leon Myrick, Jack Jones, Alice Suggs and the West Petersburg Community.

In lieu of graveside flowers the family is requesting garden dishes or peace lilies.

A public viewing will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at  J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment Petersburg Virginia.

Celebration of life service for Mr. Ory Augoney Thomas will be held, on Friday, November 22, 2024 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church West Petersburg 25720 Greensville Ave. Petersburg Virginia 23803 with Full Military Honors.  Rev. Janet Flowers, Eulogist and Pastor Keith Jones, Officiant, Now Faith Works Christian Church Petersburg Virginia.

The remains will rest in the church one hour prior to service.

The family is asking that relatives and friends assemble at the residence of his sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Vickey Edwards (Sherman) on day of service at 11:45 pm.
