Obituary
Warren Calvin McCain- Literary Poet, Community Activist, Business Man, Technical Engineer, and U.S. Air Force Veteran, was born on May 14, 1935 to Herbert and Ella McCain in Milton, North Carolina.
Warren was one of six siblings born to Herbert and Ella McCain. His sibling family members consisted of four brothers and one sister (Cliverst, Ella, Herbert Jr., Thomas, and Willie McCain). Warren was the last living member of his ideal family of eight.
Warren, from the very early ages of his youth had a go-getter spirit. After graduating from high school one of the top pupils in his class, he then attended New York University (NYU) for four years. After his graduation from New York University (NYU), he enlisted into the U.S. Air Force. As an Air Force machinist/engineer (with the rank of Sergeant - Airman First Class), Warren set the path for his future in engineering after completing a successful service time with the U.S. Air Force (February 1955 to December 1958).
Within a short time after coming out of the Air Force, Warren was hired by Radio Engineering Laboratories, Inc., and then later recruited by Cutler-Hammer Inc. (a future Eaton Corporation company at the time).
While continuing his career in engineering, Warren touched upon his New York University (NYU) college memories. This in fact helped set the tone for his passion to communicate with the written word through poetry. His first book of published poems “A Sword in Truth” started his kinship with his talent. Other books would follow. “Pieces of Peace”, written with ideal themes and clever wording to bring an insight into the modern day of the time, also inspired his spiritual focus. With this in mind, Warren would then go forward writing a theme of selective poems for a small book of his works, “Let Us Grace”; and the later release of his fourth published book of poetry entitled “Soul in the Opera House”.
Warren’s go-getter spirit continued as a community activist. With his involvement within the neighborhood that he lived, and the surrounding neighborhoods overall of Springfield Gardens, Queens, he managed to get things done that helped build up the community making it better and beautiful. He formed and oversaw a committee known as the “Queens Community Council” that helped get development going for the up keep of streets with proper maintenance and up to date sewer systems for the community at large, as well as helping in other community issues overall.
As a businessman, Warren took on small projects of publishing and items of novelty printing; as well as investing in outside projects with those individuals who showed wonderful promise.
Sadly, after a medical situation that developed with his condition of diabetes that was diagnosed in his earlier years of life (during his mid 30s), Warren Calvin McCain passed away at Jamaica Hospital during the early morning of December 27, 2021. He was 86 years old. He is survived by his wife of over fifty years, Shirley M. McCain and their two sons, Patrick C. McCain and Varcus W. McCain. He is also survived by all of his sibling’s children, and their children, and his many nieces and nephews on the McCain family tree.
May God hold your hand Warren Calvin McCain and welcome you to the eternal light of piece and heavenly kindness, in Jesus Christ’s name, O Lord who art in heaven, Amen.
