Dorothy N. Tucker

September 24, 1931 - June 10, 2020

Dorothy Lee Neville Tucker began her journey when she was born into the union of Joseph Willis Neville and Mary Bell Neville on September 24, 193 in Halifax, North Carolina.

Her education took place at Eastman High School and she attended Touro College in New York City.

The Neville’s moved to New York and later Dorothy, aka Dot, joined the NYC telephone company and retired from Verizon Services at 100 World Trade Center after 36 years of devoted service.

She was a devoted mother and a wife to Theodore Tucker and Robert Garland Ross. Dorothy devoted her life and all her love to her children: Teddy Tucker (who preceded her in death), Robert Ross, Ricky Ross, Ronald Tucker and Robyn Ross. She was blessed to have two daughters in law, Kyoungok Ross (Ricky's Wife) and son, Ricky Ross Jr and Durico Carr Ross (Ronald’s Wife), Jacinta Goode Tucker and son, Jeremiah Tucker. Dorothy was a loving and devoted sister to her brothers, Arthur Neville (aka “Sonny”- who preceded her in death), Earl Greene (Butch) and Uda Greene; twelve grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.

Dot, put God in her life as she attended and was a member of Greater Central Baptist Church in Harlem, NY. She later attended worship services at Zion Union RZUA Church in Lawrenceville, VA.

Dot loved family, music, playing cards, fishing and cooking soul food. She was legendary for her “Red Rice, Cabbage and Fat Back”. It was the signature dish for every occasion. Everybody can attest to her delicious dishes. She prepared meals the way the Lord prepared the wine and the bread to feed the world. Dot would cook ham, turkey, potato salad, spareribs, baked mac and cheese, her famous candy yams and her signature coconut cake and feed the whole neighborhood. But, she never ate leftovers. She was the queen in the kitchen. Everyone in the family knew if Dot was in the kitchen, the food was going to be beautifully prepared.

Dot was a lady that spoke her mind and walked the talk that she whispered. Those that truly knew her would know that her hair was red and her tongue was a blaze. Dot believed that tough times never last, but tough people do. She was fierce in her own right, as she was built to last.

On June 10, 2020, Dorothy embarked on her final and greatest journey when her soul took flight. She has gone home to rest as she has escaped her battle with cancer. Remember, God didn’t promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, or sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way.”

Dot leaves behind a large family of Neville’s and McWilliams’s; and a host of other family members that will forever love her, miss her and praise her name.
