Gilbert Ray Minter

On Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Sovah Health in Danville VA, our beloved, Gilbert Ray Minter departed this life suddenly.

Gilbert was born on September 29, 1962 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to the late George Washington Minter Sr. and Dorothy Ran Keen Minter.

During his life, he attended Chatham High School in Pittsylvania County, VA.

Before becoming disabled, he worked for Stanley Town Furniture Company in Stanley Town, VA. He was baptized at Trinity Baptist Church. Gilbert later moved his membership to Baptist Christian Fellowship under the leadership of Rev .Dr. William Dixon.

Gilbert loved cooking and playing cards. He was an avid Washington Red Skins fan.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, George Washington Minter Sr. and Dorothy Ran Keen Minter; and sister, Dorothy Tarpley.

Those left to cherish his memories are three children, Raneisha Jones and Brandon Jones, both of Danville, VA and Courtney Jones of Missouri; three sisters, Carrie Stone, Patricia Pool and Patricia Harris, all of Danville, VA; one brother, George Minter Jr.; godchildren, Lisa Harris and Raymond Harris both of Danville, VA; and one very special friend, Patricia Harris of Danville, VA.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Gilbert was known as the neighborhood uncle to others.

A viewing will be held on Monday, March 30, 2020 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Chapel of the J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment – Danville, Virginia.

Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at 1:00pm at Baptist Christian Fellowship Ministries, 12 Hilton Avenue, Danville, VA. with Rev. Dr. William Dixon, Pastor, Eulogizing and Bishop Waddell Butler, Officiating.
