Leonard Lamont Wise Jr. was born on February 22, 1959, to Lenora R. Brewington and Leonard Lamont Wise in Bronx, New York. Lamont, also known as Lenny, graduated from William H. Taft High School in Bronx, NY, in 1978 and subsequently enlisted in the United States Navy. He received an honorable discharge in October 1982. Later on, Lamont continued his education in skilled-trades and received several certifications. He became well skilled in electrical, plumbing, carpentry and building maintenance and was famously known as “the Jack of all trades.” Those skills led to supervisory positions throughout his career. After working for Hidrock Realty Inc. for seven years as a Commercial Superintendent in lower Manhattan, NY, he retired at the age of 61 on March 6, 2020.
Leonard was a member of Eastward Missionary Baptist Church in Harlem, NY, and served as the Armor Bearer to the Pastor. In 2017, Leonard married Alexandra Boddie-Wise, who he had been in a relationship with for over ten years.
Lamont was a tall and brawny man in stature. Without uttering a single word, his presence was known once he walked into a room. His wife and other folks had called him Superman, Deebo, and big guy – you definitely felt safe and protected in his presence. In addition to his stature, he was an impeccably well-dressed man. He had a contagious laugh and was a great and animated storyteller. He often narrated his worldly travels and experiences while serving in the United States Navy. Lamont had an affinity for smooth Jazz, and he did not miss an opportunity to see his favorite artists performing live each year. In addition to Jazz, he loved music in general. When the song "For the Love of You" by the Isley Brothers played on the radio, he would sing and reminisce on how he and others performed in a talent show for his mother and family and sang this song. Singing was just one of Lamont's hidden and understated talents. Zoom by the Commodores was another song he loved. He loved to travel and go to the beach, where he swam and floated in deep waters. He also loved sports. Once he got his hands on a television remote, it was hard to get his attention while he watched a basketball or football game – this he enjoyed while alone or with family and friends. If you were in another room, you would be caught off guard by his shouting and loud clapping during game time. Not only did he enjoy sports, but he also played basketball for Eastward Missionary Baptist Church and won two championship rings.
Leonard leaves cherished memories to his wife of ten years, Alexandra Boddie-Wise; mother, Lenore Reed; brother, Troy Wise; five children and two stepchildren, Shanaqua, Damian, Shakur, Alexsandra, Emoni, Brittany, Kelvon and Ashlei; six grandchildren; his sister-law; nieces; and host of loved family members and life-long friends.
