Deacon James E. Mason

June 26, 1931 - December 02, 2022

Mr. James Earnell Mason of Hopewell, VA (more affectionately known as “Pop”) was born June 26, 1931 to the late Willie E. and Mary Jane Jones in Dinwiddie County, VA. He was called home late Friday evening, December 2, 2022 at Wonder City Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Hopewell.

“Pop” was a very loving, humble, calm-spirited man; whom most would dare to say they’ve never seen angry. “Pop” loved himself some “Put”(his wife Sadie Mason) with whom he shared 19 wonderful years of marriage and had a relationship that spanned over 40 years. He was a devoted family man and a faithful friend, almost everyone who knew “Pop” loved him. “Pop” also loved the Lord and he loved his church, Temple of Deliverance Ministries Worldwide, where he served as an honorary Deacon, for more than 15 years, under Apostle and Pastor Wyche. He was a hardworking independent man who didn’t mind helping anyone at any time. He worked for Hercules Inc. and went on to work in the farming industry for many years from which he retired. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of the outdoors. “Pop” would get out and ride his bike every chance he got, he REALLY loved to fish and hunt. “

Deacon Mason was predeceased by his parents Willie E. and Mary Jane Jones; his son Gilbert J. Taylor; his brothers Joe Carroll, Lee, John Lloyd and William; his sister Edna Scott; as well his beloved aunts Eula J. Belle and Amelia M. Freeman.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife Sadie B. Mason of Hopewell, VA; children Alexander L. Williams (Rose) of Hopewell, VA, Thomas D. Williams of Newburgh, NY and Gloria M. Blackwell (Leonard) of Chester, VA; 10 wonderful grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and many other beloved family members and friends.
