Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 12:1-3
Mr. Carlton Lewis Jones, 78, of Danville, Virginia, departed this life on Friday, February 19, 2021 at SOVAH Hospital.
Born July 5, 1942 in Washington, D.C., Carlton was the son of the late Wilmer R. Jones and Florence J. Jones. He was educated in the Pittsylvania County Public Schools System.
Carlton was employed at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Plant, retiring after thirty years of service. After retirement from Goodyear, being the man that he was, he was unable to just sit still, so he started his own business, Jones Medical Transportation, LLC. Once he retired from that successful business, he decided to travel. He especially loved driving to the mountains to buy fruit and for sight-seeing. He loved to talk; he could make you laugh, and he seemed to never meet a stranger. Carlton loved his vehicles, his family, and his grand-dog, Poodie, his best friend.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen Adkins and his brothers, James (Jimmy), Wilmer Jr. (Dicky), and Phillip.
Those left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife of 27 years, Phyllis, of the residence; four daughters, Dr. Wanda Carter (Jerry), Paula Lea (Dwyane), and Camesha Jones all of Danville, Virginia, and Paulette Intemann (Randy) of Atlanta, Georgia; four step-children, Tatlbert Childress of Danville, Virginia, Pastor Wesley Keith Childress of Martinsville, Virginia, Melinda Childress, and Tamara Childress both of Charlotte, North Carolina; five sisters, Carolyn Whitehead, Emmaline Wilson of Danville, Virginia, Florence Via (Dewey) of Petersburg, Virginia, Charlotte Jackson of Fort Hood, Maryland, and Barbara Ross of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two brothers, Stanley Jones of Danville, Virginia, and John Childress of Blairs, Virginia; four sisters-in-law, Flora Carter of Danville, Virginia, Diane Carter of Martinsville, Virginia, Marietta Jones and Nicki Jones of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother-in-law, Henry Keetts of Atlantic City, New Jersey; 18 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
