Mr. Rodney Leon Mills Jr., of 2306 Apache Street, Apartment B, Greensboro, North Carolina, entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Affectionately known as “RJ,” he was born on July 24, 1998, in Martinsville, Virginia. He was raised in Germantown, Maryland, where he grew into the loving, joyful and vibrant young man so many people came to know and cherish.
RJ attended Henry County, Virginia schools through the fourth grade before continuing his education in Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland, where he graduated.
RJ had a sincere love for people. He had a beautiful way of making others feel welcome, and his bright smile was a gift he freely shared with everyone around him. He cared for others deeply and often put the needs of those he loved before his own. His heart was generous, his personality was larger than life, and his presence brought warmth, joy, and happiness wherever he went.
Family was especially important to RJ. He was devoted to the people he loved and treasured the bonds he shared with them. He was also the kind of person who was always willing to help whenever he could. His compassion extended beyond his family to friends, coworkers, and countless others whose lives he touched.
RJ had a deep love and passion for music. He was actively pursuing a career in music and dreamed of sharing his talent and creativity with the world. His passion drove him forward, and he was becoming the rising star that so many believed he could be. Music was more than something he enjoyed—it was a part of who he was and a reflection of his dreams, energy and big personality.
He also had a tremendous love for basketball. During his teenage years, he spent countless hours playing AAU basketball and participating in school athletics. The game gave him opportunities to compete, grow, build friendships and create memories that would remain with those who shared those years with him.
Professionally, RJ worked as a Master Grill Operator at Waffle House, where his personality and ability to connect with people were once again part of the lives of those around him.
RJ’s life was filled with love, laughter, music, basketball, friendship, family, and dreams for the future. His bright smile and unforgettable personality touched many lives. Though his time with us was far too short, the love he gave and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved mother, Donita (Ross) Mills-Thorne of Greensboro, North Carolina; his stepfather, Rodney Thorne; his father, Benjamin Ramey of Martinsville, Virginia; his brothers, Christopher Mills of Germantown, Maryland, and Benjamin (Trey) Ramey III of Martinsville, Virginia; his sister, Destinee Mills of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; his grandmother, Nancy Ross of Martinsville, Virginia; his devoted cousin and godbrother, Marcel Harris; his best friend, Derrick Parsons; the love of his life, Shanice Francene Goode of Greensboro, North Carolina; and a host of beloved relatives, friends, coworkers and loved ones.
RJ will be remembered for his beautiful smile, enormous personality, generous heart, love for family, passion for music, love of basketball and genuine love for people.
His journey on earth may have ended, but the light he carried will continue to shine through everyone fortunate enough to have known and loved him.
Rest peacefully, RJ. Your smile, your music, your laughter and your love will never be forgotten.
