Legacy of Love
Terry Maurice Lewis, II, better known as Reesee or Barsha, was born on June 17, 1969 in Brooklyn, New York to the proud parents, namely, Terry Lewis, Sr. and Maudell Lewis (Sauls). He received his formal education from New York Public Schools and graduated from City-As-School.
In his youth, Terry gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ during a summer youth revival where Evangelist Ruth Harper was the revivalist. Terry was raised in the Glorious Church of God in Christ, where Bishop Perry Lindsay Sr. was the Pastor. Terry was heavily influenced by his grandfather, the late Bishop Henry W. Sauls, Bishop Perry Lindsay, Sr. and Deacon Raymond Johnson. Terry was a part of the Angelic Choir and the Glee Club. His grandfather, Bishop Henry Sauls, taught Terry and his brother, Chad Lewis, the value of prayer and every summer when they returned to New York, they would automatically get on their knees at 12:00 noon every day.
Terry was a talented lyricist and musician that played multiple instruments (bass guitar, upright bass, lead guitar, and the trombone). Terry, most widely known by the stage name Barsha, was an influential rap lyricist of the early 1990’s and was a member of The First Priority Music Family. In 1990, Barsha released his first album through Bum Rush Records entitled "Barsha's Explicit Lyrics." Terry’s love of music remained constant until his untimely death.
Terry Maurice Lewis, II, entered into eternal rest on July 1, 2021. He was a loving, kind, artistic, funny, beloved son, brother, father, cousin, and friend.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Terry Lewis, Sr.
Terry leaves to cherish his memories a devoted family: mother, Maudell Sauls; two children, Yanique Lewis and Malik Lewis; three brothers, Chad Lewis (Daphne), Nicholas Lewis, and Caesar C.J. Lewis; his grandmother, Lottie Lewis; godmother, Nancy Nolan; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Viewing for Mr. Terry Maurice Lewis II, will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment, Petersburg, Virginia.
Funeral service for Mr. Terry M. Lewis II, will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 11:00am from New Life Deliverance Tabernacle, 900 Decatur St. Richmond, Virginia 23224. Interment to follow in the Maury & Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 2700 Maury St. Richmond, Virginia 23224.
Family and friends are asked to assemble at the residence of his mother, 2728 Geneva Dr. Richmond, Virginia on the day of the service at 9:45am.
