Winifred White Rice, 77, of 265 Ida Street, Danville, Virginia passed away at 5:30pm on February 21, 2022
Winifred was born on May 9, 1945, to the late James Edward Gunner and Mary Emma White Hampton. She was educated in the Danville Public Schools, attended college, received a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse and later retired.
Winifred was married to the late Toby G. Julius Rice for more than fifty years and had three girls, Jamie B. Thornton, Tammy S. Fontaine and Tobeana Rice-Sow.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James E. Hampton, Sr. and Mary White Hampton; her daughter, Tammy S. Fontaine; her sister, Camilla H. Coles; and her brother, Charles Hampton.
Left to cherish her memories are her girls – Jamie and Tobeana; sisters, Gloria Hampton Hairston, Sonta Hampton Reid, and Malet Hampton Woods; brother, James Edward Hampton, Jr.; grandchildren, Nichelle M. Thacker, and Kessler Rice; great- grandchildren, Ki’ Asis Stephen and Milana Thacker; special beloved cousins, John and Eve Smith; a lifetime friend, Miss Delores Ross; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Celebration of life service for Mrs. Winifred White Rice will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at the J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment- Danville Virginia with Rev. Patricia Daniel, Officiating.
The family is asking that relatives and friends assemble at the J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment Danville, Virginia at 1:45 P.M. on the day of service.
