Mr. Purnell Batts (Sweet Pea), departed this life on December 10, 2020. He resided with his father at 9915 Duncan Road, North Dinwiddie, VA.
Purnell George Batts was born on January 8, 1979 to Calvin and Wanda Batts in Petersburg, VA.
He graduated from Petersburg High School ("Go Waves") in 1997 and played basketball with Petersburg High for a season. Purnell was unemployed but had previously worked with Capital One for a period of time. His favorite teams were the Green Bay Packers and the LA Lakers.
In his early years, Purnell attended the Gravel Run Baptist Church (Dinwiddie, VA) with his grandmother and father. While there, he was in Sunday School and Vacation bible school.
Purnell was preceded in death by his grandmother, Vernell Arlene Batts; and grandfather, George Batts both of Dinwiddie, VA; and Lois Powell of Petersburg, VA.
He leaves to cherish in loving memory, his children, Mahogany Wilkins of Petersburg, VA and Purnell George Batts, Jr. (PJ) military based in Colorado; his mother, Wanda Regina Batts; his father, Calvin P. Batts; the mother of his children, Annie Wilkins, of Petersburg, VA; one sister, Tonya Grey; two nephews, Dwayne and Andre Grey of Petersburg; and a host of cousins, and friends.
Public viewing for Mr. Purnell G. Batts will be on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 from 2:00P.M. – 8:00pm at the J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment.
Drive in celebration of life service for Mr. Purnell G. Batts will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 1:00P.M. at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park ,7324 Church Rd. Petersburg, Virginia 23803, Rev. Dr. Larry Brown, Sr., Pastor, Gravel Run Baptist Church, Officiating.
Family and friends are asked to assemble at the residence of his father, Mr. Calvin P. Batts ,9915 Duncan Rd. Dinwiddie Virginia on the day of service at 11:45A.M.
Masks are required at all visitations and services. Attendees are also asked to follow and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
