Colin Werts came into this world on August 14, 1961 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Robert Werts and Margo Bates. He was affectionately called “Yamin” and “Pop-Pop”. He made his triumphant transition to glory on July 1, 2021 with his eyes looking towards heaven. Surely, the angels rejoice at his arrival.
Colin Werts grew up in New York and briefly served in the military following his high school graduation. He met and married Lauren Parish-Werts on the 19th day of August 1994 and remained married to her until he went home to glory. From this union emerged two daughters, Jennifer Redwood and Yaminequa Werts, one son, Joshua Cumberbatch, and son-in-law, Ricardo Redwood. In addition he leaves behind six grandchildren; Jewan (JJ), Aiden, Heaven, Lauren, Delilah, and Zyonn. He gracefully leaves his mother-in-law Carolyn who he adored and who loved him dearly. He also leaves one devoted sister-in-law from this union, Kera, three brothers-in-law, Black, Kaseim, and Yusef, his three nephews Bikki, Darryl, and Robert and one niece, Najibah. His many adopted children and godchildren that remained close to him until his death are as follows; E, Leeshar, Makita, Shanequa, Isis, Shamara, Michála, Scarlen, and many many more. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
Colin Werts has made a great impact to the music industry. He was an artist, a musician, a musical engineer, a producer, a DJ, and an A&R executive. He had an eye for talent and a passion for the arts with copyright songs like “Who Got The Flow” and many more. Music was how he expressed himself. Music opened many doors for him, by allowing him to go on tour, throw events, and open multiple studios and night clubs.
Colin Werts worked as an assistant store manager at Home Depot while furthering his education. He graduated from the Anchor Theological Seminary and Bible Institution in Texarkana, Arkansas, where he achieved his Bachelors in Theology. He also earned his Bachelors of Science at SUNY Empire State College in New York. He advanced his career further by becoming a stockbroker and passing the series 7 stockbroker exam. He later branched off into opening his own construction business and became the Pastor of Renew Spirits Church in Hempstead, NY. While pastoring at Renewing Spirits Church, he was led by the Spirit to become a drug and mental health counselor. He received a (SACAVA) Substance Abuse Certification Alliance of Virginia which certified him as an alcohol and drug counselor. Continuing on his journey, he received his Masters in Theology at The Anchor Theological Seminary and Bible Institute and with great success achieved his Doctorate in Theology as well. His certifications included, but are not limited to, wedding officiant, credential alcoholism and substance abuse counselor trainee, priesthood consecration and several more.
Colin Werts was a devoted husband and he built his wife, Lauren, her dream home in Petersburg, Virginia with his bare hands. On the 30th day of July, 2004, Colin professed his love all over again to her as they renewed their vows. He always wanted to show his wife and children what a positive, loving family looked like by setting that example daily.
Everyone he interacted with, he carried that same love and embraced everyone as family. Even if you did not have that example in your own home, he took you in, built you up, made you a part of his own family and treated you no different. Despite his illness, he could be seen preaching and counseling from his hospital bed and asking the question, “What do you want out of life?” He always taught us the truth and the value of family first. He was a great example of a man that followed God, and there is no doubt his legacy followed him to heaven.
