Rev. Joe L. Robertson, 89 of Blairs, Virginia peacefully departed this earthly life early Monday morning on May 4, 2026. Born November 4, 1936, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Robert Linwood ‘Stegall’ Robertson and Mattie Lanier Robertson. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Margaret Waller Robertson, a sister Magdalene Childress, two daughters JoAnn Robertson and Dorothy Ann Robertson Brandon, and one great grandson Jaylin Bennett.
Rev. Robertson was employed by Roy Ford Construction and Pittsylvania County Schools. He dedicated his life to Christ at Shockoe Baptist Church at a young age under the pastorship of the late Rev. G. H. Pass. He sang with the Shockoe Male Chorus and also served as Associate Minister. He was a family man, loved the outdoors, and enjoyed carpentry. He enjoyed having dinner with his family at his favorite restaurants Mary’s Diner and Western Sizzlin. He also looked forward to the get-togethers with his children and grandchildren for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. His favorite colors were brown and blue and his love language was acts of service. As we will remember that he drank his coffee black anytime day or night, we will treasure that he lived a long and full-filling life and will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are three daughters Annie Mae Robertson, Alicia Waller, and Margaret Marie Robertson, three sons James Louis Robertson, David Jerone Hall, and Barry Robertson, two sisters Eleanor C. Childress and Erma Edmonds, and one brother Robert Robertson, one sister-in-law Katella Dodson, eleven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
