William Sidney Lowery "Bill"

On the afternoon of Wednesday, March 7, 2018, Angels of the Lord summoned William S. Lowery from labor to reward at his home in Waverly, Virginia. After a long fight, he has now received his wings and crown in glory.

William was born on August 11, 1946 to the late James E. Lowery, Sr. and Jessie Ross Lowery. He was educated in the Sussex County School System, graduating from Sussex Central High School, Class of 1964. At an early age, William established his spiritual foundation at Easter Baptist Church. He also attended Refreshing Streams Ministry and supported the ministry’s vision from its inception. Faithfully, he logged on the strategic prayer-line and weekly bible study.

As a leader, William served as a Butcher and Marketing Manager at Popes Supermarket, Gates Food Land and Food Fair Supermarket, and concluded his tenure with Food Lion. In his spare time, he loved watching sports and sitting in his favorite chair while he gazed out of the patio window. William also played baseball and coached the Sussex Blue Sox, during his prime years.

Forever, William Sidney Lowery will be loved and remembered by his family, friends and all that knew him. William was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Murphy; and his four siblings, Harold Lowery, Sr., Constance Fowler, Bessie Booth and Marian Newsome.

 Left to cherish found memories are: his caregiver and devoted wife of 47 years, Gloria W. Lowery, of Waverly, Virginia; sons, Ronald T. Lowery (Dana) of Richmond, Virginia and Rodney T. Lowery (Christine) of Prince George, Virginia; one sister, Mabel Butts of Waverly, Virginia; three brothers, James Lowery, Jr. and Preston Lowery (Juliette) both of Waverly, Virginia, and his devoted brother and best friend, Marvin Lowery (Peggy) of Prince George, Virginia; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three devoted friends, Charles Winfield, Roosevelt Winfield, and Warren Jackson all of Waverly, Virginia; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and former co-workers.

The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Barbara Brown and Juliette Lowery for responding and assisting upon the arrival of the Sussex County paramedics, sheriffs and, police departments.

 A Celebration of Life service for Mr. William S. Lowery will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 1:00pm at Easter Baptist Church, 13454 Jerusalem Plank Rd. Waverly, VA., 23890 with Rev. Joseph Williams, Pastor, Officiating, and Elder Ronald Lowery, Pastor, Refreshing Streams Ministry Inc., Eulogizing. The interment will follow at Mt. Moriah United Church of Christ Cemetery Waverly, VA.

 A public viewing will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 12p.m. to 9p.m. at the J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment.

 The family will assemble at 11:45 a.m. on the day of service and will receive relatives and friends at the residence 25443 Sussex Drive, Waverly, Virginia.
