Evangelist Evelyn J. Hunter of 1010 Farmer St. Petersburg, Va. peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law Rev. Ronnie and Evangelist Tammie Martin of 4309 Chesdin Blvd., Sutherland, Va. She was born in Virginia on April 3, 1923 and was educated in the Petersburg Virginia school system.
Evangelist Hunter was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. William Harris and Mrs. Alice Graves Harris; and her husband, Bishop William J. Hunter.
Evangelist Hunter was a housewife. She also served faithfully beside her husband in ministry. She was affiliated with many churches, Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Paul Johnson; True Vine Bibleway Temple, under the leadership of Bishop Levan Kelly; Shining Light Pentecostal under the leadership of the late Bishop Peter Parker; Greater Faith Apostolic Holiness Church under the leadership of Bishop Robert W. Jones; God Mission Eternal Love Holy Temple under the leadership of Bishop Roy Morrison; God Mission of Faith Church under the leadership of Rev. Virginia Graham and The New House of Prayer under the leadership of Elder Vernon Hill, Sr. and Bishop Craig Buck.
Evangelist Hunter leaves to cherish her memory one son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Ronnie Martin (Evangelist Tammie) of Sutherland, Va.; god-daughter Evangelist Thelma Stevens and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends; among them a devoted cousin, Ms. Wanda Wallace.
The Home going Service for Evangelist Evelyn J. Hunter will be conducted at 1:00pm, Wednesday, April 11, 2012 from the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church of God In Christ 233 Halifax St. Petersburg, VA. Rev. Jeffrey L. Dodson, Sr. Pastor. Rev. Dr. Herbert Anderson, officiating and Bishop Craig Buck Eulogizing. Interment Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. Viewing one hour prior to service at the church the day of service.
Viewing will be Tuesday, April 10, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment 25824 Greensville Ave. Petersburg, VA.
