Mr. Harry Southerland of 2120 County Drive #64, Petersburg, Virginia entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 11, 2012.
Harry was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 18, 1938 to the late Arethra Brooks and Harrison Southerland, Sr.
Harry attended school in Brooklyn, New York and later was employed as a factory worker. He enjoyed fishing, yardwork and Grand Prix Cars.
Harry was preceded in death by his father, Harrison Southerland, Sr.; his mother, Arethra Brooks; and his sister, Mildred Canty.
He is survived by his wife, Verelia Southerland of Brooklyn, New York; sons, Harry Williams of Prince George, Virginia, Harry Evans Jr. of Chesterfield, Virginia and David Lee Evans of Surry, Virginia; daughters, Val Pierre of Brooklyn, New York, and Shanita Southerland of Brooklyn, New York; brothers, Henry Brooks of Petersburg, Virginia and Kenneth Southerland of Brooklyn, New York; sister, Geraldine Garrett of Baltimore, Maryland; great aunt, Sallie Mae Woods of Raeford, North Carolina; a beloved good friend, Annie Jones of Petersburg, Virginia; eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Harry Southerland will be conducted on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Lily of the Valley Deliverance Center, 411 Oak Street Waverly, Virginia, Bishop Marvin Drew, Pastor. Bishop Craig Buck, officiating. Interment will be in Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, Virginia. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family is asking that relatives and friends assemble at the residence, 2120 County Drive #64, Petersburg, Virginia at 12:45pm on the day of the service.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 16, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00pm and on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 from 9:00am to 8:00pm at the J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment. Condolences may be registered online at www.jldodsonandsons.com
