Ms. Lorena Mae "Skip" Newby, 77, of 15 Old Church St. Claremont, VA passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010 at John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell, VA. She was born on May 30, 1932 to the late William G. and Anna O. Newby. At an early age, Ms. Newby was baptized at First Baptist Church, Claremont. She was a factory worker in New York and a loving and faithful caregiver to her mother and sister Rosetta for many years. She is preceded in death by her parents and six siblings, one stillborn, Ernest, Earl, William, Jr., Curtis and Gertrude. She leaves to cherish her memories a son Robert Leon Newby (Eva) of Huber Heights, OH; two brothers, Harold Newby (Mildred) of New York and Wesley Newby (Susan) of Waverly; four sisters, Rosetta Newby of Claremont, Lovella Newby Williams (Carl) of Matoaca, Arnetta Newby Perrin (Arthur) of Norfolk, and Patricia Newby Lucas of North Carolina; two grandchildren, Robert Leon Newby, Jr. and Jean Newby; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends; among them devoted friends Leon Parham, Marie Pierce, and Ralph King. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 15, at 12 noon in the chapel of J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment, 219 N. County Dr. Waverly, with the Rev. Anthony Washington officiating.
