Our beloved Mrs. Lucille Elizabeth Mason Coleman entered eternal rest on Monday, January 12, 2026, at her home. She has gone to be with her Heavenly Father, her parents, and her siblings, rejoicing in the promise of everlasting peace.
Lucille, affectionately known as “Small & Sugabone” by her husband, “Lucy Cole” to many, and proudly carrying the cherished title of “Nang-Nang”, was a devoted and faithful member of the Trinity Missionary Baptist COGIC. She served joyfully as a choir member and usher, and in the culinary department for many years, blessing her church family with her gifts and her spirit.
Born January 26, 1953, to the late Jerome and Valnora Mason, Lucille earned her cosmetology license from Flair Beauty School in 1987. She went on to open two salons, Cashays, alongside Mrs. Paulette Surley, located in Petersburg, Virginia in the area of Chapel/Farmer and Melville streets. She later worked for many years at the Walmart Supercenter in Chester, Virginia.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Mary Rawlings, Madeline Mason, Henry Mason, Crystal Mason, Ernell Crittendon, and Vanessa Mason; her sons, Keil Austin and Gerald Ruffin; and her grandsons, Keontae and Quamond Crenshaw.
She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend—but above all, she was a Child of God. Lucille’s joy was found in family, friends, fellowship, fishing, cooking, music and singing. She sang in choirs during her earlier years. Lucille enjoyed listening to Marvin Gaye and Frankie Beverly and Maze. To know Lucille was to be blessed by her warmth, her honesty, and her unwavering love. Whether through a word of encouragement, a comforting hug, or her “telling it like it is,” she left an impact on everyone she met.
Lucille leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 46 years, Gerald Coleman. Her life and legacy will continue to be carried on through her children, Kenneth, Kevin (Lakeisha), Kim Crenshaw, Rachelle Oliver, KaTosha Crenshaw (Kelwunn), Tonaya Oliver (Richard), Jerell Bugg, and Anthony Oliver. She is also survived by her loving sister, Martha Burton (Garland); grandchildren, Trevon, ShaQuadae, Katisha, Kae’Twan Crenshaw, Delvon McNair, K’Von Evans, Kevin Jr., Kweli Crenshaw, Kaeyahne Johnson, Davielle Allen, Diamond, Kaleese, Kaleele Crenshaw, Sanai and Jai Bugg, De’Jan and Malai Oliver, Jayden Murphy, Alana Oliver, and Messiah Rooks; and blessed as well with 24 great-grandchildren.
Her memory will also be carried on by her brothers-in-law, Calvin and Ralph (Yvonne) Coleman; nieces, Cassandra Rawlings, Sheree Crittendon, Katrina Mason, and Thomasina Williams (Lamar), who loved her not only as an aunt but as a mother figure; and numerous nephews, and extended family who always showed her the utmost respect including her Trinity Church family, and dear friends Gloria Farmer, June Williams, Jaqueline Crawford, Tina Rollins and Rose Branch. To have known Lucille was truly a blessing, and to love her was a gift beyond measure.
