Obituary
On Tuesday, November 10, 2021, our hearts were saddened by the passing of our beloved one, Mrs. Marline Elizabeth Young. Marline E. Young, age 72, of 1039 Elliott Ave, Petersburg, VA departed this life at Battlefield Park Healthcare Center, Petersburg, VA.
She was born in Columbia, SC on July 30, 1949 to the late Barbara Huggins Myles Maniego and the late Elmer Saunders, Sr. Marline graduated from Peabody High School, and became a Direct Care Aide at Central State Hospital , where she later retired.
Marline was a member of Gillfield Baptist Church, where she enjoyed volunteering and feeding the homeless.
Marline was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Maniego; her father, Elmer Saunders, Sr., and her two brothers, Elmer Saunders, Jr., and Osie Myles, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories , her loved and devoted husband , Samuel “Sammy Joe” Young of Petersburg, VA.; two children, Warren Brown, ( Olanda) of Watertown, NY; and Lakisha Thompson of Petersburg, VA; step father , Mr. Morris Maniego of Chesterfield, VA; eight grandkids, Lauren, Mar’I, Ma’Riah, and Malachi Brown of Watertown, NY, Zachary Thompson, Soniya, Areiyon, and Iyndia Macklin all of Petersburg, VA; a loving sister-in-law, Iris Williams of Petersburg, VA; a brother-in-law , Samuel Coleman of Hampton VA; uncles and aunts , special uncle, Gary Rivers of Petersburg, VA, James Rivers (Annie) of Baltimore, Maryland, Raymond Rivers (Dorothy) of Petersburg, VA, and Annie Dailey of Petersburg, VA; one nephew, Diante Myles of Northern VA and one niece, Andrita Williams of Petersburg, VA. Marline was also blessed to have a host of close family and long time friends that will miss her dearly, including Ms. Rose Jackson who worked with Marline for a number of years at Central State Hospital. After Marline’s retirement from Central State, due to illness, their friendship continued. Rose often visited Marline at the nursing facility and on many of those occasions blessed her with goodies and clothing.
Public viewing for Mrs. Marline E. Young will be on Monday, November 15, 2021 from 2:00P.M. – 7:00pm at the J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment. – Petersburg, Va.
Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Marline E. Young will be held on Tuesday, November16, 2021 at 11:00A.M. at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park 7324 Church Rd. Petersburg, Virginia 23803. Rev. Jeffrey L. Dodson, Sr., Officiant, Eulogist.
Family and friends are asked to assemble at the residence, 1039 Elliott St. Petersburg, Virginia on the day of service at 9:45AM.
