Mr. Stanley W. (Dolly) Fitzgerald, 73, formerly of 603 Hinton St., Petersburg, Va., departed this life on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at his home, 2700 Jasper Street SE, Washington, DC.
Stanley was born on February 4, 1940, to the late Ralph and Eliza Fitzgerald. Stanley attended Morning Star Baptist Church in Petersburg, VA and was a long time resident of Washington, DC.
Stanley was preceded in death by sisters, Patricia, Barbara and Iris; brothers, Glen, Horace, Joseph, and Alonzo; and his loving step-mother, Lin E. Fitzgerald.
Left to cherish his memory are devoted friends, Ms. Peggy Newsome and Mr. Tommy Balthrop; brothers, Ralph Fitzgerald Jr. (Sarah) of Bronx, NY; Jesse Fitzgerald (Elizabeth) of Winter Park, FL; Linwood E. Fitzgerald Sr. (Mildred) of Dinwiddie, Va., Steve R. Fitzgerald (JoAnn) of Waldorf, Md.; sisters, Shirley F. Taylor of Petersburg, VA, Argie M. Williamson (Johnny) of Flint, Michigan; one aunt, Elma Reed of Baltimore, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff and friends of Knox Hill Senior Apartments, friends and co-workers of the Metro Police Department, as well as the staff and management of The BK Henry Funeral Chapel all of Washington, DC. Funeral Service for Mr. Stanley Fitzgerald will be held at 11: 30a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013 from the Chapel of J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment, 25824 Greensville Ave. Petersburg, Va. with the Rev. Steve R. Fitzgerald, Eulogist.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 from 4pm to 8pm at the J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment.
The family is asking that relatives and friends assemble at the funeral home at 11:15a.m. on the day of the service.
