After 92 years of labor, our beloved Mr. James Oliver Pulley, Sr. (Sugg) was called home to his reward on Saturday, December 14, 2013.
James, the oldest of twelve children, was born on July 25, 1921 to the late Fed and Anna Pulley. He was a retired Auto Mechanic, which he loved.
James was married to the late Hazel Graves Pulley, and to this union four children were born. James was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age at the Rocky Mount Baptist Church, McKenney, Virginia.
James was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Pearl Pulley, great-grandson, Devon Pulley; three brothers, Acrea, John and Rochester Pulley; and several nieces and nephews.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his daughters, devoted, Helen Bloomfield of North Chesterfield, Va., and Martha Epps of Petersburg, Va.; one son, James O. Pulley, Jr. (Charlotte) of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren, one devoted, Clarice Pulley of Petersburg, Va.; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Agnes Thorne of Dinwiddie, Va., Mattie Jones of Stony Creek, Va., Bernice Harvell and Susie Allen of Petersburg, Va.; four brothers, Fred Pulley of Carson, Va., Willard Pulley of Brunswick County, Va., Stephen Pulley of Stony Creek, Va., and Eddie Pulley (Pearl) of Dinwiddie, Va.; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; two devoted friends, Mary Jane Pegram and Matthew Staten; and other relatives and friends.
Viewing for Mr. James O. Pulley, Sr. will be on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 6 to 8pm at the J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment, 25824 Greensville Avenue, Petersburg, Va. 23803.
Funeral services for Mr. Pulley will be conducted on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, 11:00am from the Little Zion Baptist Church, 24603 Little Zion Road, Carson, Va. 23830 with the Rev. Dr. Darren T. Brandon, Pastor, Officiating. Interment will follow in the Hopson Cemetery, Brunswick County, Va. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the residence of Mrs. Martha Epps (daughter), 1478 Halifax Street, Petersburg, Va. at 9:30am on the day of the service.
