Jacqueline Delores Jenkins
January 7, 1950 - May 13, 2014
God, in his infinite wisdom and awesome love, called home his daughter, Jacqueline Delores Jenkins, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, on Tuesday morning, May 13, 2014.
Born in Beaufort, South Carolina and raised in Queens, New York, she later made a home in Chicago, Illinois. Jackie was a devoted employee of Jewel Food Stores for 22 years, where she worked her way up to Assistant Service Manager.
After battling and dealing with a brain tumor, she moved to Virginia to be with family, and later to North Carolina to be with her daughter, Natasha. In 2005, she had a brain aneurysm and was thought to not recover, but as she was known to be very strong willed, small but mighty, she recovered from it and lived with dementia for many years. Unfortunately major respiratory health issues set in, sending her to her loving father’s arms.
Jackie, aka “Black Jack”, was a little woman in size, very vibrant in spirit and love and had a laugh so infectious. She had a special knack to take your money in gambling, yet wrote poetry and completed some of the most complex jigsaw puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her father, whom she adored, James Matthews; brother, Alonzo; and sister, Bessie.
She leaves cherishing her dear memories, a daughter Natasha Henry of Raleigh NC, a step daughter, Annese Jackson (Frank), of Indiana, her mother, whom she adored, Lydia Matthews of Petersburg, Va. Jackie is also survived by three siblings, James Matthews Jr. of Bergen, NJ, Carlene Matthews of Petersburg, Va and a devoted baby sister, Theresa Jackson (David). Jackie was loved and adored by six grandchildren, Lawrence White of Raleigh NC, Lauwren White of Wake Forest, NC, Rebekah,Joshua,Olivia, and Josiah of Portage, IN, and one great-granddaughter, Harper White of Wake Forest ,NC. She also leaves a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that loved her very much and were blessed to have Jackie in their lives. She will forever remain in our hearts and memories.
