Obituary
Ms. Mary Alice Barbour entered into eternal rest Friday, October 25, 2024 at UNC Health Rockingham Hospital in Eden, North Carolina.
Born October 2, 1961, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Robert Barbour and the late Janie Pearl Barksdale Barbour. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined the Riceville Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Earnest McLaughlin.
She was last employed at Bassett Walker and was known for her love of softball. She played for the Java All Stars and received many accolades. Mary loved to dance. She was always the life of the party.
Mary was preceded in death by her brothers Frankie Lee Barksdale and Robert Lee Barbour, Jr.
Those left to cherish her memories are four children, Shavon of Danville Virginia, Markee (Monique Tallant Barbour) of Christiansburg Virginia, Terri of Danville Virginia and Crystal Barbour of Cascade Virginia; three sisters, Castella Jones of Java Virginia, Odester Miller of Gretna Virginia and Ronnie Barbour of Java Virginia; three brothers, Howard Lee Barbour, Alexander Barbour both of Java Virginia and Ernest Barbour of Charlottesville Virginia; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a devoted niece, Sherri Jones and two devoted friends, Thelma Calloway and Shirley Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The celebration of life service for Ms. Mary Alice Barbour willbe held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. from the Riceville Missionary Baptist Church, Java, Virginia, Rev. Ronnie Walker Eulogist. Bishop Kell Stone, Officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024,from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment, 447 Old South Main Street, Danville, Virginia.
The family will assemble at 1:00 p.m. at the residence of her niece Sherri Jones, 501 McDaniel Road, Java, Virginia 24565 on the day of the service.
