Obituary

Mr. Arbie E. Craft, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Riverside Health & Rehabilitation in Danville, Virginia.

He was a son of the late Arbie E. Craft, Sr., and Mary McMillian Craft. He was born on September 28, 1928, in Manhattan, New York.

After the premature death of his mother when he was twelve years old, he came to Chatham, Virginia to live with relatives. During his teen years he worked many jobs in Danville, Virginia and this laid the foundation for him to be a diligent worker.

Mr. Craft  was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served in WWII and was a licensed barber. Mr. Craft returned to New York and there he met and married Bernice Lopez and opened his barber shop in midtown Manhattan. Upon the closure of his shop, he worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in lower Manhattan and Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx.

Mr. Craft enjoyed reading the bible daily and was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in the Bronx until he retired and moved to Danville, Virginia. One of his greatest joys was reading medical information dealing with healthy living/alternative medicine. He maintained a copious library of information and enjoyed sharing this information with others.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Bernice; a daughter, Desiree; son-in-law, Moses Deese; grandson, Khalil Craft-Deese; cousin-in-law, Martha Jones and cousins Roy Harris and Sheila Street and a host of other relatives and friends.
