Demonya Mitchell Glass was born to the late Lorraine Glass on May 27, 1960.  He was the first grandchild born to the late Nellie and Jim Henry Glass.

“Maine” as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, was educated in the Danville Public School System.  Upon leaving George Washington High School, he later moved to Atlantic, New Jersey where he lived for many years, working several jobs before returning home to Danville in 1997.  He last worked as a custodian at the Yankee Candle Factory in Blairs, Virginia until his health began to decline.

Mitchell leaves to cherish his memory, three beautiful daughters, Brandi and Mia Tate both of Danville, Virginia and Shanice Simmons-Chester (Ron) of Somers Point, New Jersey; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Raheem, Da’Mya, Xavier, Armom and Jeremiarah, all of Danville, Virginia, Josiah Demosthene, Ronyan and Rihanna Chester, all of Somers Point, New Jersey; one great grandson, Messiah of Danville, Virginia; one sister, Cathryn Glass of Danville, Virginia and her children, Steven, Symone and Lekita; two uncles, Archie Glass (Laverne) of Danville, Virginia and David Glass (Deborah) of Atlantic City, New Jersey; one aunt, Sue Ella Glass of Danville, Virginia; special cousins, Greg, Garry, Glen and Archie, Jr. who were more like brothers and a very special love with Minion Jackson and family.  “Mitch will be deeply missed and forever loved!

A Family Gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment, 447 Old South Main Street, from 5 pm – 7 pm.
