Obituary

Jim Jenkins Jr.

Mr. Jim Jenkins Jr., age 75, transitioned peacefully to eternal rest on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at home.     Jim was born on January 27, 1947 in Shreveport, Louisiana to the late Jim Sr. and Rosa Lee Pogue-Jenkins and was the oldest son born to that union.

Jim was affectionately called “Brother” by his family and called “Ponytail” by others - especially Lucy.

Jim attended Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1966.

Jim attended Grambling State University for about two years, before spending 12 years in the United States Air force. Following his service to our Country, he became an Independent Truck Driver.     He later became an independent contractor/builder along with his brother, Robert Jenkins, until Robert’s demise. Jim then returned to the trucking industry where he remained until his death.

Jim was a highly skilled Independent Truck Driver and had been driving trucks for over 40 years. He worked for Celadon and Blue Lighting Logistics - to name a few. He knew every highway there is in the United States. He helped train other drivers such as Eddie Greene, Maurice (Moe) Brown and Bernard Mcintok, helping them to find their way and grow in the trucking industry.

In Jim’s spare time, he enjoyed watching Forensic Files; and he was very lucky playing the slots at the casino.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard Clamon and Robert Jenkins; his sister ,Deborah Lois; his half-brother, Willie Gene; half-sisters, Ledora Jenkins Joichen, Mary Alice Jenkins,; wife, Sandra Jenkins; stepdaughter, Stacey Marie Johnson; and Henry Lee Chandler Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory are his long-time companion of 47 years , Ms. Lucy Pearl Chandler and her three daughters, Henrietta (Denise) Whitaker, Cheryl J. Chandler and Carolyn Brown-Chandler, his stepson, Cedric Davis (Mary) of San Diego , California, and stepdaughter, Melvina Bridges.

He also leaves one sister, Patricia Jenkins-Hamilton of Desoto TX, half-siblings, John Jenkins of Los Angeles, CA, and Charles Jenkins (Vanessa) of Los Angeles, CA, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
