Obituary
Mrs. Teresa Ann Covington Cobbs, 70, entered eternal rest peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family on April 4, 2026, after a short battle with cancer.
“Ma Peaches or Peaches” as she was affectionately called by many was born on July 2, 1955, in Danville, Virginia to the late Alfonza Covington and Esther Gunn Covington. She was educated in the Danville Public School System and Dudley Cosmetology School, Greensboro, North Carolina. She was married to Mr. Rickey Cobbs, who survives. Peaches had various jobs, but she was most known for her job at “Treasure Island” and the community cook. She was an amazing cook and loved cooking for her family and friends. She was definitely known for her “string beans,” Her cooking will truly be missed by many.
“Peaches” started her faith walk at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Howard L. Graves, Sr. She later moved her membership to the Unity Baptist Fellowship Church under Pastor Graves leadership until his death. She continued her walk with God and her faithfulness to Unity under the leadership of Pastor Crystal Motley, where she served faithfully on the Kitchen Committee, Pastor’s Aid Ministry and as a part of the finance team. Peaches loved her Pastor and church. She always made sure her “Mother Graves” was taken care of even up until she had to say good-bye. This is a tremendous loss to her church family, and she will greatly be missed. Let’s not talk about those church suits and beautiful hats she wore each Sunday.
“Ma Peaches” was very family oriented, she always talked about her children and grandchildren, they were the loves of her life and the light of her world. She especially loved cooking for her children and adopted children. She was known for her food at the concession stands during ball games. A die hard, Dallas Cowboys fan, her love for sports showed in the community through the supporting of her sons in their sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfonza and Esther Covington; her brother, Bryant “Keeta” Covington and one nephew, Al Covington, II.
“Ma Peaches” leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Mr. Rickey Cobbs; three beautiful blessings, her children, Ricky (Rashanda), Tynisha and Ryan Cobbs; four amazing grandchildren, Da’Nik, Amya, Cameryn and Legend; a brother, Al Covington “Bam” (Constance); a brother in law, Deacon Donnie Crews (Deloris); her bonus children, Kia Thomas, Ashley Gunn, Sean Thomas, Trevek Brooks, Chris Murphy, Janard Barksdale and Timothy White; two nieces, Keisha Venable and Shannon Covington; a nephew, Xavier Covington; a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
