Ruby M Fletcher

September 27, 1938 - November 20, 2023

Ruby Mae Fletcher was born on September 27, 1938, to the late Clarence and Mary Etta Toombs in Mora, Georgia. Ruby transitioned peacefully and entered eternal rest on November 20, 2023, into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

As a child, she liked nature and being outside. She played with her cousins and ran around helping out on the farm. She went hunting with her dad frequently. She was a great shot with a rifle. She always had a green thumb. She loved to garden; planting vegetables and growing flowers.

On March 1, 1957, she said “I do” to the late Reverend Clarence L. Fletcher. They were married for fifty-seven years before his passing. Of that union, they bore four children. The family relocated to Sarasota, Florida in 1960. She was a devoted wife and mother. She took care of the household. She loved animals and took care of many of them over the years. She was lively and could often be heard singing praises to her Lord. She loved furiously and prayed often. She had many natural talents, which she used to bless others.

The family joined New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Sarasota, Florida. At the church, Sister Ruby was very active, putting her talents to work. She used her ability to create things to design floral arrangements for the church for numerous occasions. She served as a deaconess, teaching Sunday School and ushering. She sang with the choir and also served on other committees in the church.

She continued to work with her hands by designing many of the hats she wore. She was a seamstress and would reupholster furniture. She also did some housekeeping work in her spare time. She loved to go fishing throughout her life. As time went on, she became the main caregiver for her husband.

Family members preceding her death were her brothers John Toombs (Douglas, GA), Fred (Jimmie Lois) Toombs (Douglas, GA), Benny Toombs (West Palm Beach, FL), Clarence (Jacqueline) Toombs (Broxton, GA), and Frank Toombs (Broxton, GA), and one sister Barbara Jean (Roosevelt) Jenkins (Broxton, GA).

Ruby is survived by her children:  Reverend Wayne (Jackie) Fletcher (Sarasota, FL), Reverend. Wendell (Pauline) Fletcher (Prince George, VA), Wade Fletcher (Sarasota, FL), and Beatrice (Clement) Fletcher-Miller (Sarasota, FL).
